Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of mismanaging county resources and failing to deliver meaningful development.
Comparing Sakaja to his predecessors, Owino argued that the former governors had their shortcomings, none had performed as poorly as the current county boss.
“Former Governor Evans Kidero lost re-election in 2017 due to poor performance, while Mike Sonko, despite being a generous leader, was impeached over personal conflicts with the state. However, Sakaja’s leadership is an outright disaster,” He stated.
“Sakaja does not know his left from right. All he does is pilfer, steal, and defraud the county”
He further questioned the county’s financial transparency, noting that while Sakaja frequently boasts about revenue collection, there is little to show for it.
“He claims to be collecting money every day, but where is this money? The Controller of Budget reported that Nairobi allocated 0% of its budget to development. What are we showing Nairobians?” Owino asked.
His remarks come just days after an Infotrak survey ranked Sakaja among the country’s least-performing governors, reinforcing growing concerns about his administration.
Despite the backlash, Sakaja has defended his administration, insisting that his long-term plans will yield results.
His allies have dismissed Owino’s remarks as political propaganda, urging the MP to focus on his legislative duties.
Nairobi residents are frustrated by stalled projects, poor infrastructure, and inadequate service delivery, pressure is mounting on the governor to prove his worth or risk political backlash.
